PUB LEAGUE NEWS CENTRAL
RECAP, EVENT 1 - SAT SEP 15, 2007
1st event was a great success! Thanks to all those who turned out. Rules and layout of tournament were established. We only managed to play the pool portion of the evening, as the venue exploded with people and was far too busy to attempt anything else. New location will be CROWN & ANCHOR pub, 389 Main St Brampton. Should allow for pool, darts, and poker in a more managable atmosphere. Spread the word, let's get more people out. 8pm sharp. As you know, the evening goes quickly, we need to get started ON-TIME. We will eliminate karaoke as an event, and introduce TRIVIA as an easy way to get extra points. Also, we've determined that if you try an event, you're getting one point regardless. *As it was the first event and we're working out the cobwebs, Tara will be allowed to play her round one pool match, and Corey & Britney can conclude their unresolved match. |

RECAP, EVENT 2 - FRI OCT 12, 2007
A great turnout and heated battles marked night 2 as Pub League hit full stride. Casey W was our night winner, taking home a sweet $28, with newcomer Jeff L taking the runnerup prize. Poker is now eliminated as an event - it's tough to coordinate and too time consuming for the frantic breakneck fun that is Pub Night. Instead we shall introduce Euchre, which is easier & faster paced. Find some rules on the internet if you need to brush-up on the game. The Crown & Anchor has proved to be a perfect venue for Pub League, with all the ammenities we need and great service. We'll see you there again!

RECAP, EVENT 4 - FRI JAN 18, 2008
| The first Pub Night of 2008! |
In our closest competition yet, twelve competitors fought fiercely to the end to determine our night's victor, Tara A, who won the pot of $50. This left a heated three-way tie for second, which was determined by a three-dart throw-off, which Nicole W walked away with uncontested, reimbursing her entry fee. Notable performances of the evening included bonus bullseyes for Jeff L and Corey W, good for a free beer compliments of the house; our trivia pointleaders were Steve B and Corey W with 4 points each. A warm welcome is extended to new Ultra Group members Joe S, Nicole W, Wes J, and Emily. The surprise cameo award goes to Mike, who makes his first Pub Night appearance as an observer. Next round, we've decided to reward the nightly trivia point leader with a cash prize, as well. A note to all, we mix it up for the next Pub Night - that's right, it's our Bowling Night! Meet us at 8pm, at Trans-World Bowl 273 Glidden Road, Brampton on Feb 22 for a unique night of bowling, drinking and trivia in groups with bonus prizes. Followed by a rendevous at a local pub to continue the socializing & fun. See you there!

RECAP, EVENT 5 - BOWLING! FRI FEB 22, 2008
Our Bowling Night!
An enthusiastic Emily prepares to reach for the stars! An incredible turnout! Our biggest yet - a phenomenal 17 people turned out for Bowling Night, and the action was intense! Teams were picked at random, and three games were played, each with different partners. Soon the strikes were being had in earnest and the beers, they were a'drinking. Our evening winner was newcomer Ron, who trounced the competition with 39 points. It should be pointed out, that for the first time, we offered random prizes of bonus points - but even disregarding Ron's 4 bonus points, he still lead the pack. Ron takes home $60.
Our Evening Winner Ron shows us you can do anything you believe in. Narrowly coming in second place was sophomore Emily with 37 pts, for a sweet $10, and our Trivia Leader of the night was Casey W for $5, although his win of 7 answers is in question as Shawn squeaked out 8 answers with a delayed submission after polls closed... Some notables who had at least one strike in every game: regular Diane Q, newcomer Chris P, sophomore Nicole W, and our winner Ron. As mentioned, tonight we had bonus points awarded at random, mostly values 1 thru 4, with one 8pt prize available... which went to Wes, who was happy to raise his total to 22, a discouraging evening mostly because partner Shawn was bowling with a broken back and using the Nerf ball. Joining the broken back club was Jessica T, who logged her third 18 pt night in a row, and is applauded for playing despite injury...
New and familiar faces in the crowd, some with coats on, because Shawn didn't bring the camera out until everyone was leaving... And a warm welcome to new PubNighters Ron, Chris P, Jana E, Dan W, Liz S, Stacy, Nadine E, and Tatiana. It's back to the Crown & Anchor for evening #6! We'll see you there. EVENING POINTS
Dave studiously tackles the trivia, using his lighter as illumination - not unlike Socrates centuries ago. Newcomers Ron and Liz share a PubNight moment in the background.
Chris demonstrates the Super Stylin' skills that got him 36 pts - just outside collecting some chang-chang. ($) Final notes - check out that leader board! Some major movement, as Tara A knocks Jeff L out of the top spot with a commanding 120 points... will anyone be able to catch her? Stay tuned, happy Pub Nighters... |

RECAP, EVENT 6 - BACK TO THE PUB! FRI MAR 28, 2008
Pub Night Returns to the Pub!
Tara PM marks her score, while Dave L prepares to bring his A-game.
Jeff B knows that Pub Nighters appreciate a nice rack. A monumental Pub Night, as it was the final opportunity for newcomers to have an equal shot at the final prize, and the procrastinators were happy to oblige. Pub League welcomes Jeff B, Rob M, Tara PM, Dave H, and Nicole H. As part of an effort to gain new recruits, Pub League extended a onetime bonus to those who brought newcomers. Despite heavy publicity and a fantastic opportunity for easy reward, only two Pub Leaguers took advantage - hence Tara A received 5 bonus points and Jana E accepted her 8 point reward... which launched her into the top position as our evening winner, for a sweet $50. Ironically, it should be noted that newcomer-bonus-points was Jeff L's idea... Jeff L being the Pub Nighter who Jana E leapt over to take the top spot. Jeff L still finishes with his $10 runner-up prize. Jeff L was also our evening Trivia Winner, with 8 correct answers, and gets $5 for his efforts.
Evening winner Jana E shares her new found fame with Jeff B and Nicole H.
Runnerup Jeff L shares his pool cue holding secrets with Dave L. In other events, Shawn M was happy to finally accept his first bonus-bullseye for the free pint of beer... as were a bunch of other players, but due to the aforementioned free pint, Shawn M really can't recall who rec'd free beers... Dave H did... Nicole H... Jeff L... Stephen B... oops, it has just been pointed out to Dear Leader that the point board shows who had winning bonus throws. Apparently the affects of the free beer continue into Pub Night Boxing Day.
Tara A strives for the affections of Dear Leader, while Michael Scoffield contemplates his next escape. The night ran fairly smoothly, although our first experiment with partners-pool, an effort to speed up the pool games, ended in disaster as the game took approximately 6 years to complete. (There are actually reports that the game continued into Saturday afternoon). The other random matching throughout the evening seemed to be very tight, though, as all races were extremely close, including some Dart game nailbiters.
Jessica T poses for one of the 1500 photos taken during the 6-year-long pool game. In other news, Jessica T finally breaks her streak of three consecutive 18's with a personal best 24, jumping her up to 5th place (a paying position!)... and Nicole H was happy to share her breakdancing moves. So, next month - back by popular demand - another Bowling Night... this time 5pin at a new location TBD. Then one last Classic Pub Night May 30... followed by the biggest day of the new millennium, the Amazing Super Stylin Pub League Ultra Group FINAL Ultimate Cocktails Krazy Extravaganza Reception Sensation, including a BBQ... Sat July 5th (new date).
Nicole H (left) and Jeff L share a Pub Night moment.
Two anonymous Pub Nighters share a Pub Night moment.
Jana E smiles for the camera, after inquiring to her partner if she should get the spade out of the shed tomorrow.
Rob M and Dan W studiously tally the trivia results. We trust Rob M because he is an accountant, although he was drunk at the time of compiling. He seemed to be quite proficient at compiling the totals while drunk, however... hang on a second... he must be drunk at work! Okay, Dear Leader apologizes for the somewhat random and sub-par nature of this photo description. Readers are encouraged to submit their own funnier caption for publication. EVENING POINTS
Note the Leaderboard upset as Jeff L reclaims the top spot, pushing last month's leader Tara A into second place... the excitement continues as Pub League marches on to its July 5th (new date) conclusion... |

RECAP, EVENT 7 - BOWLING RETURNS! FRI APRIL 25, 2008
Back by Popular Demand - Bowling !
The first Pub Night as eliminations began, and the race narrowed - 14 people were officially eliminated from the contest, leaving 21 in the running... notable Pub Nighters now unable to claim the top prize included Ron C (our Febuary evening winner with 39) and Chris P, who walks away from his 36 score...
Yes, Bowling returned by popular demand, with Jana E winning the evening for a second consecutive time and enjoying a $40 reward for her efforts. There was extra opportunity for bonus points as a yellow bowling pin was circulated (yellow pin, as the head pin, and a strike = 5pts!) Stacy, Nicole H & Nicole W managed to capitalize on this unique situation. It should be noted Jana E won outright, regardless of bonus points.
In other events, Shawn M was happy to finally accept a prize for the first time, receiving $10 for his second place finish. Dear Leader was also happy to experience the best score of his bowling career, a sweet 208, which included six strikes in a row! May as well mention it now, because it will never happen again, as Dear Leader's average is about 74.
Trivia resulted in a tie between Jana E and Tara A, which Tara A managed to steal in an overtime trivia challenge, securing a hardearned $5.
So, next month - one last Classic Pub Night May 30, our final at the Crown & Anchor... followed by the biggest day of the new millennium, the Amazing Super Stylin Pub League Ultra Group FINAL Ultimate Cocktails Krazy Extravaganza Reception Sensation, including a BBQ... Sat July 5th.
At the top of our Leaderboard, Jeff L retains his lead for another month, adding another four points for a commanding 140... Tara A retains her 121, still good enough for second place... but it's Jana E who could be gearing up for the upset, as she claims third spot (115) with only three appearances thus-far. Nicole W and Dan W cracked the top 7 for the first time, sending Jessica T and Stephen B just outside of the paying spots... but will they stay there? Stay tuned.

RECAP, EVENT 8 - FRI MAY 30, 2008
The final Pub Night in a Pub ! The final Pub Night before the finale, eight challengers fought desperately to increase their scores. All eyes were focused on the top of the leaderboard, wondering if Jana E would continue her massive assault to unseat Jeff L... but Jana E stumbled on her fourth frame with a last place finish of 17. She'll look for a strong performance on the final Pub Night (Pub Day?) July 5th, and attempt to leapfrog into the Champion's place. Jeff L maintained his ironclad grip on first place, a position he has only surrendered once since claiming it on evening #3, although Dan W made a worthy challenger, forcing an unprecedented tie for the evening. A full extra dart game managed to send Jeff L to the winner's circle once more, for a sweet $25. Jeff L was also the Trivia Leader for the evening, claiming his $5 prize, but again his opponents did not let him off easy. The first round resulted in a three way tie (Jeff L, Dan W, Shawn M), which took an additional three rounds to finally determine a winner. Major changes atop the leaderboard, as players from the past resurfaced into paying positions, while others slipped just outside. Jeff L leads with a commanding 147, followed by Jana E with 132, and Tara A and Dan W are tied at third with 121 each. Note we have expanded to 10 paying spots for our finale.Major changes atop the leaderboard, as players from the past resurfaced into paying positions, while others slipped just outside. The most entertaining parts of the evening involved the wonderful crowd that filled in around the Pub Leaguers, including a loud Scottish man with tree-trunk arms, who blamed Pub League for hogging the pool table, began fighting with everyone in the bar, and was eventually escorted off premises by police. Kudos to Jeff L, who fed the jukebox full of angry music to fuel the drunken frenzy... Well, that almost wraps up the social experiment of the Amazing Super Stylin' Pub League Ultra Group... congrats to our 37 different alumni who turned up at various times. All finished... except for the finale. Saturday July 5th, all welcome. All non Pub Leaguers can compete for a side prize that day... but eyes will be on our 16 finalists to determine who will be crowned Champion of the ASSPLUG!
